  just seen this announced on reddit:.

  ken cook was announced today at morning worship as the new member of the governing body.

  i dont recall him from the broadcasts, but he was formally a helper on the writing committee as per https://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/governing-body/.

  Wondrous expansion!!

  The Governing Body in 2018 is hotter than the stock market. The stock market has gone up 5 or 6 percent in the first weeks of the year. The Governing Body has gone up 14%!!! That must be proof of divine favor.

  More details about my knowledge of jobs by JW's:

  My exposure to JW's is by means of the Hispanic immigrant community in L.A., of which I am part of. All the people that I know, except for the couple that I mentioned above, are immigrants or first generation Americans. I know them well. they are my friends. The levels of intelligence can run the whole spectrum, but because they had a rough early life, in most cases working since childhood (often as young as 6), they had no chance to attend university. I don't question intelligence or ability. I never tried to demean any type of work, I simply attempted to describe based on my observations. My conclusions are the most common jobs among immigrant Hispanic JW's are cleaning and landscaping, generally performed by those with lower education; and translators, performed by those with more education, generally by first generation Hispanic Americans or immigrants raised and educated in the U.S. These jobs will never expose you to the "dangers" of evolution or history or bible scholarship. Therefore, I feel the JW leadership is quite happy with that status quo. Nothing else intended.

  Let me throw a bit of a personal information. I have a mechanical engineering degree, but I repair copiers (i will leave the long version for another time) for a living and I do quite well. In fact, I easily make double as much as most mechanical engineers do. However, just like in the cleaning business, most copier technicians don't have university degrees. That's a piece of reality. Nothing demeaning or wrong, just reality. Don't easily take offense at reality, especially if someone is trying to describe a type of work and the people who do it, as I tried in my previous post.

  I like your posts, but on this one you seem to have thin skin. I know of only one couple who run a very successful cleaning company. Both have university degrees. Everyone else that I have met in the cleaning business has education ranging from literally nothing to high school. That could be several dozens people. In my post I referred to people who do the physical work, not the ones hiring and firing.

  When I say "if I go by..." my only intention is to be objective, I have no personal experience in the cleaning business, so I am forced to rely on other people's anecdotal accounts regarding pay, which can vary widely from person to person.

  Nothing wrong with making a living in the cleaning business, but generally speaking, the people in the trenches don't make a lot of money. They make decent money only. Also, generally speaking, the average education of those people in the trenches is below 12th grade. I wish I could say otherwise, but that doesn't square with the facts.

  my first thought when seeing this headline was; "how could trump be right?

  " even though i am registered as a republican, i don't really care for trump.

  after reading the article, i still don't care for trump, but i had never considered many of the points brought out by the article.. january 17, 2018. what i learned in the peace corps in africa: trump is right.

  If you dig deep enough everything you said is accurate, even if we apply it to Western countries. Bill Gates knows well of all the problems that you mentioned and has decided to provide help, especially to eradicate some diseases. I guess there's choices we can make. Either do as president Trump does or do as Bill Gates does. Extend your helping hand or extend the middle finger.

  Regarding Raymond Franz books, I have both PDF copies, completely legal. I paid for them when they were still available about six years ago. Since I paid for them, I guess that gives me the right to gift them. Send me a PM

  I also have the Spanish version of CC. I didn't pay for it, so I am bit nervous about it. Anyone wants to help me unload this burden?

  Interesting thing about window cleaning and JWism. They do seem to run together. Lots of JW's that I know are in the cleaning business. Some work for others, some do it solo, some own a small cleaning company. If I go by what the self employed cleaners tell me, then they make a decent living. This seems to be a very common job for the less educated.

  Interestingly enough, in the Hispanic community there's a very common job for the better educated, the type of people who could have gone to ,or actually attended university. The job is translator, often working in the court system. I actually believe that this type of job is even promoted by the "job counselors" in the congregation. It's a job where you don't employ critical thinking skills, even though, you are likely to be very smart.

  so we have all heard the worldwide reports about khalls being sold off and congregations being amalgamated etc.... of course, jws are being told that these actions are a sign of "just how much the work is progressing, and how jehovah is blessing the increase and expansion!".

  i can share the following from my part of the world too!.

  in perth, western australia the following has occurred.. three "new" congregations have been formed!

  The JW's may not attend university, but they are well versed in mathematical concepts. What they do is they always add, never subtract. So in this case the algebraic sum is as follows (+5) + (-2) = 3 Isn't it wonderful?... always adding.

  American Thinker is a conservative magazine which, just as liberal magazines do, tells its side of the story. I wouldn't blindly trust the experience of this woman as representative of the whole of Africa. I have met and done business with plenty of African people here in the U.S. and my experience has always been positive. In fact, based on that experience, I can tell without any hesitation that those Africans people are more honorable and trustworthy than black people raised in Christian America. Sorry, that's my experience. Have I been unlucky in my deals with black Americans and lucky in dealing with black Africans?? perhaps, but I can only speak from experience.

  What to Do....Please Help. Awakening JW for a very long time

  good afternoon , .

  i have been having doubts for many years and as most jw's i have certainly not done myself a favor by suppressing all of my critical thinking.

  i am married with 3 kids and my wife and i are inactive, but my wife has made it very clear in speech and action that she wants to go to all meetings, field service, and indoctrinate our kids.

  I wasn't thinking of legal rights, but the individual rights that unfortunately even governments fail to protect. In this case there is two conflicting opinions on how to raise children, the opinion of the parent out of the cult and the opinion of the parent inside the cult. I think a reasonable arbiter would favor the parent outside the cult. What can be the arguments??? easy...shunning, no higher education, no blood transfusions, no association with worldly people, downright psychological abuse with talks and images about destruction, robbing of childhood time with countless hours in meetings and field service....etc.
